Squash picking

Forget about apple picking (well, don't really, because it is a really fun thing to do)- the new "in" thing to do in the fall is going squash picking! That's right, it is your chance to bring home a variety of squashes that you have personally selected, choosing them for their beauty, their weirdness or their uniqueness.
R. and I, along with a friend, had a go at squash picking this week-end. Unfortunately for us, we were a little late in the season. Since there had been frost the week before, the squashes and pumpkins had to be picked, otherwise they would have rotten. I did manage to find one little, perfectly round pumpkin in the field though. The rest of our loot was carefully selected from huge bins- only the pretty squashes came home with us! Guess what's for dinner this week!

Along with squash picking, this place also offered apple and grape picking.

 My perfect little pumpkin!

Beauties!

October colours!

October can be a beautiful month if the weather cooperates, which it did lat week-end. We took advantage of the sunny day to go explore a new market, Marché Maisonneuve. It is a quaint market surrounded by beautiful buildings and a gorgeous fountain. Well worth a detour!
